Peace of Wisdom

Don’t Let Overconfidence Sink the Ship

By Andy Andrews

The Titanic was the most advanced ship of its time—massive, luxurious, and believed to be “unsinkable.”

But on April 15, 1912, it struck an iceberg and sank, claiming over 1,500 lives. That tragedy wasn’t just caused by ice. It was fueled by overconfidence.
Warnings were issued and received. But the ship didn’t slow down. It didn’t change course. After all, it was the Titanic. What on earth could go wrong?

We’re often told to be “confident”—and that is important. Confidence helps us speak up… take action… lead.

But confidence that refuses to listen… that charges ahead without adjusting…That’s when even the strongest journeys hit something they can’t recover from.

In business, relationships, finances—whatever path you’re on—you might be headed somewhere incredible. But wisdom pays attention. It checks the course. It respects the signs. It knows when to slow down, when to pivot, and when to ask for advice.

Confidence powers the engine.
Humility steers the ship.

Because even the best-built vessels don’t always go down because of a storm. Sometimes, they sink because no one thought they needed to steer.

Today’s “Peace of Wisdom” can be found when we lead with confidence—and let humility take the wheel.
