Peace of Wisdom

Fear

By Andy Andrews

Are you afraid of anything? Come on now… everyone is afraid of something!

How about Spiders? Or heights?  Snakes?  Whatever it might be, have you ever let your fears get the best of you?  Have you not reached a goal because fear stood between you and success?

You know…fear doesn’t always mean “being afraid.”  Sometimes fear is a result of being more uncomfortable than you can take in a particular moment. Phobia isn’t necessarily fear either, even if you ARE a “germaphobe”.

If you’re a history buff, you’ll remember the inaugural address made by FDR when he famously stated “the only thing we have to fear is…fear itself — nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror…”

Hmm…  Did you catch that part?  Unreasoning? Unjustified?  Maybe to get over our fears, all we need to do is to recognize when our fears are reasonable and justified, and perhaps be aware when they aren’t.

When you recognize a fear is no longer reasonable, you take the first step in overcoming it.

Today’s Peace of Wisdom can be found in removing the power of unreasonable fear.
