Peace of Wisdom

Self-Awareness

By Andy Andrews

When I was a child, I couldn’t imagine drinking coffee. But now? I can’t imagine NOT drinking it!

As we mature, we change. We grow in understanding – even in understanding ourselves. This is often called “self-awareness.”

It’s important to understand our wants and needs, our strengths and weaknesses, our knowledge… or the lack of it.

Self-awareness is a lifelong process, and it is a choice. Some people would prefer to see themselves as who they used to be, or who they pretend to be, rather than who they really are.

There’s value in seeing ourselves clearly. Knowing and accepting ourselves as we are at present affects how we spend our time and resources. We recognize limitations and make wiser decisions. We chase fewer rabbit trails and seek more realistic goals.

“To grow yourself, you must know yourself.”  A person who knows himself well is most often greatly respected and isn’t likely to waste time trying to become someone he is not.

Today’s Peace of Wisdom can be found in seeking greater knowledge and a calm acceptance of yourself and your place in the present.
