This mature Shiras bull moose had wandered away from his cow while feeding in the open sagebrush. Fall colors and smoke from the nearby Camp Creek fire created a dramatic and unforgettable scene.

Known as a “Cub of the Year” (COY), this young grizzly was one of three siblings playfully exploring near their mother as she foraged for fresh spring grasses and wildflowers in Teton National Park. COYs are born during winter hibernation and venture out for the first time each spring—making sightings like this especially rare and memorable.

This buck pronghorn keeps a sharp lookout using eyes nearly as large as an elephant’s. As the fastest land mammal in North America, he can run up to 60 mph for long distances—unlike the cheetah, whose speed fades after a few hundred yards.

The classic “buck and rail” fence needs no holes to stand, making it fast and effective for managing livestock. Wyoming is a free-range state, so if you don’t want your neighbor’s animals on your property, the fence is up to you.

Male Mountain Bluebirds return to Teton Valley each spring. If you’re patient and stay still, they’ll grow used to your presence—offering great opportunities to watch them forage for food. Patience truly pays off.
