Most of us learned about consequences early from the adults in our lives giving stern cautions.
Things like:
If you touch a hot stove you’ll get burned.
If you lie you’ll get your mouth washed out with soap.
These warnings were meant to keep us safe and make us behave.
If we didn’t learn by believing, we learned the hard way—living with the natural or social results of our choices. Hopefully, that kept us from ruining our lives in bigger ways!
Things like:
If you never do homework you might fail the class or forfeit your degree.
If you don’t show up for work on time and do your best you’ll get fired.
If you’re caught shoplifting or harming others you’ll pay a fine or go to jail.
Plenty of people test the limits of nature and the patience of their nurturers. The fortitude of authorities to enforce laws and house rules is what saves us! It’s the basics—the foundation of “law and order.”
While ignorance of these laws won’t rescue us, the consequences might!
Today’s “Peace of Wisdom” can be found when we realize our words and actions have consequences.
