Peace of Wisdom

Stewardship of Time

By Andy Andrews

When Bear Bryant greeted his incoming freshman at the University of Alabama, he always delivered the same message first.  It was written on a card he kept in his wallet and the coach referred to it often during their tenure there.  Today, almost every man who plays for Bear Bryant can quote the words from memory.  Here they are…

“This is the beginning of a new day.  God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it, or use it for good.  What I do today is important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it.

When tomorrow comes, today will be gone forever, leaving something in its place…. something that I have traded for it.

I want that to be gain, not loss; good, not evil; success, not failure…in order that I shall never forget the price I have paid for it.”

Time is a precious gift. It cannot be saved.  What is lost can never be recovered. Each day is a brand new opportunity to make a series of decisions that will matter for the rest of our lives.

Today’s Peace of Wisdom can be found in carefully stewarding the time we’ve been given.
