Peace of Wisdom

The Value of Kindness

By Andy Andrews

If you’ve ever seen the movie Groundhog Day, you know that Phil, the main character, undergoes quite a transformation.

There are many things that lead to this, and I won’t spoil the movie for you in case you haven’t seen it. But I’ll share with you one valuable piece of wisdom it contains – one of the reasons Phil changed his life is because he learned the value of being kind.

It sounds simple, but these days, being kind is not always easy. We have things like road rage, cyber bullying, rampant lying, and growing prejudices against – not only race – but personal beliefs. Such things distract us, keep us from exhibiting kindness and experiencing its rewards.

We need a revival of kindness in our world today. A kind reply to an angry tone can quiet a mean spirit. A kind gesture, such as letting an impatient person move ahead of you in line or on the freeway, might just lower your blood pressure AND theirs.

And a kind word at a fast-food drive-thru might get you that extra ketchup you ordered.  It will certainly brighten the server’s day!

Today’s Peace of Wisdom can be found in discovering the life-changing power of kindness.

I don’t know what others are experiencing in their lives – that little kindness I freely and happily give just might improve their lives.

I do know kindnesses given and gratefully received improve my life.

I love this. I am amazed how people respond to just being kind and respectful towards them.
