Peace of Wisdom

Enjoy your Favorites

By Andy Andrews

“What is your favorite… book, movie, food, person?”

It’s surprising how often we’re asked about our favorite things. Do you ever have a hard time deciding? Like if you had a lot of really great teachers—how do you pick just ONE name for your password?

Even Rodgers and Hammerstein had a tough time narrowing it down to a few favorite things for Maria in The Sound of Music! I mean, doorbells and noodles?? Come on—are those really Maria’s favorite things?

But isn’t that what makes our favorite things so personal? And probably why they ask us about them for password prompts!

The word “favorite” comes from “favor”—what we prefer, honor, give our time, thought, and energy to.

“Favorite” contacts on your phone? The ones you call or text the most. Bookmarked favorites on your browser? The sites you visit most often. It’s all a great reminder: we’re partial to certain things… and show special care to certain people.

Sometimes, the best thing we can do in a day is to simply enjoy our favorites.

Today’s “Peace of Wisdom” can be found when you enjoy your favorites!
