Peace of Wisdom

Consistency

By Andy Andrews

You’ve no doubt heard the adage “Actions speak louder than words.”

I like the way Ralph Waldo Emerson put  it —  “Your actions speak so loud, I can’t hear what you say.”

Do you know someone whose only consistency is inconsistency?

Worse, does that describe you?

Things happen – we’re all going to be late, miss an appointment, or be forced to bail on someone because of something unexpected. That’s life.

But if we become known for our inconsistency… that’s a problem.

If you want to be known as a person whose actions speak louder than anything you say, show up when you say you will.

Be early for appointments.

Say what you mean.

Over-deliver.   Never under-deliver.

Plan for the unexpected…give yourself extra time. If something puts you behind or prevents you from showing up at all, communicate that as quickly and succinctly as possible – bad news is better than no news! A quick phone call, text, or email goes a long way in conveying the message that you value the time of the individual(s) expecting you, and regret that you can’t deliver. Then, make it up to them in an appropriate way.

Today’s Peace of Wisdom can be found in being consistent.
