Peace of Wisdom
Initiative

By Andy Andrews

Have you ever been driving home from work, dreading that pile of dirty dishes you know is waiting in the sink, but – SURPRISE – when you arrive, the dishes are done and the kitchen is spotless!

Someone – presumably a family member – saw a job that needed to be done and did it!  YOU are the grateful recipient of their initiative.

Noticing a task that needs attention and approaching it in the right way can make all the difference.

If we go about our days dreading the tasks we have to do, then life can become a chore. But if we see our work from a different perspective — for the joy of  helping someone out, the pride we feel when we’re creating or finishing a task well – we are on track toward cultivating a heart of initiative.  The job itself is the reward!

It just so happens that showing initiative in the workplace is so rare that employing it often tends to be rewarded with more responsibility, or even a raise in pay!

Today’s Peace of Wisdom can be found in motivating yourself to show initiative. If you see a task just waiting for action, hop to it!
