The Wisdom Harbour Educational Fund

The Wisdom Harbour Educational Fund

Every adult on a campus, for a full school year.

Not just the teachers — the administrators, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, custodians and coaches too. Everyone a student passes in a day, given something worth talking about.

What a gift does

Eighty-seven dollars, one adult, one school year.

The Fund buys Wisdom Harbour memberships for school staff who would otherwise go without. It isn’t a donation to a building or a budget line — it’s a seat, and it belongs to a person.

One staff member — $87

A full school year of films, conversations, audiobooks and readings, on the campus and at home.

A teacher’s seat reaches a classroom

One membership carries the classroom display licence, so what a teacher finds on a Tuesday night is in front of thirty students on Wednesday.

The adults between the classes

The custodian, the lunchroom, the bus. A student has more conversations in the hallways than in any one room, and those adults are included on purpose.

What it looks like when it works

Piedmont, Alabama

A rural district where more than two-thirds of students qualify for free or reduced lunch — the kind of number that usually decides a child’s outcome before they walk through the door. In Piedmont it didn’t.

68%

of students in poverty

100%

graduation rate, five years running

#1

in the nation, K–8 math growth

Nothing that happened there required money the district didn’t have. It required a group of adults deciding that young people were worth talking to — and then having something worth talking about. The teachers, the students and the custodian all tell the same story.

How to give

Two ways in

Give to the Fund

Your gift goes to the next school in line. Most campuses are reached this way, a few staff members at a time, until the whole building is covered.

Give to the Fund

Name a school

Have somewhere in mind — the school you went to, the one your children attend, the one down the road? Name it when you give, and that’s where it goes.

Name a school

The Wisdom Harbour Educational Fund is held at the Community Foundation of South Alabama, a 501(c)(3). Gifts are made and receipted through the Foundation.

If you’re at a school

Ask. That’s the whole process.

There’s no application form and no grant cycle. Tell us about your campus — the school, roughly how many adults work there, and what you’re hoping it does for your students — and we’ll tell you honestly where you’d sit in the line.

One classroom, right now

If you’d rather not wait on the Fund, a single teacher can buy a Classroom Membership outright — $87 for the year, with the display licence and the Teaching Log included.

Think about your hometown.

The schools near you have the same teachers looking for a way in, and the same students worth reaching. A lot of them have the same budget problem too. That last part is the one an outsider can actually fix.
